April 13th Update

Well day one of the chase trip didn't play out too well. Good ol fashion bust in western OK for us. It was pretty much a bust for all chasers on the plains from KS to TX. The next few days look a lot better chase wise but potentially dangerous to the general public across the southern plains. May update on the road if I have time. Will be in Oklahoma today and either OK or KS tomorrow.

Upcoming Weekend Storm Chase April 12-15th

It has been about year now since I've posted on this blog but I though I would get things going again with the upcoming weekend chase. After two very marginal chases so far in 2012, looks like the end of this week will bring better severe weather chances to the plains. There have been many differences in the models for all the days so I'm basing my trip mostly on pattern recognition. Thursday will have issues with moisture/instability but it seems like western KS southward to northern TX panhandle will be in play for late evening supercells. Stronger deep layer shear will overspread the plains with the advancing longwave trough slowly moving east through the weekend with daily dryline setups possible Fri-Sun. Will update from the road with forecasts and targets. Will be leaving from Houston very early Thursday morning.

Iowa Tornado

Quick update on this weekends storm chase. Chased 4/8 - 4/10 from Oklahoma to Wisconsin - over 3000 miles in 3 days. Here are some bad pics from the Mapleton, IA tornado from Saturday evening. Hopefully a detailed report within a week or so.

Hello 2011 Chase Season

Its been a long while since I've posted on here but with storm season quickly approaching I thought I would revisit. I still have some chase accounts from 2010 that need to be added which includes a couple of Oklahoma tornadoes last May 19th. An okay setup is is taking shape today across the Arklatex region and since I'm now located in southeast TX, it has my attention. Still undecided on playing some storms on the dryline in east/northeast TX later today but my instinct says stay out of the bad terrain and save some gas money.
